Citrus County schools have maintained their ‘B’ grade, despite the state’s education department raising the bar for school grades. According to the Florida Department of Education, Citrus County schools achieved an overall ‘B’ grade for the 2022-2023 school year.
The Florida Department of Education recently released the school grades, which are based on student performance on state assessments, graduation rates, and other factors. Citrus County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. John J. Huarte, expressed his pride in the district’s achievement, saying, “Our students, teachers, and staff have worked hard to achieve this grade, and we are proud of their accomplishments.”
The state’s grading system has become more rigorous in recent years, with more emphasis placed on student performance and progress. The Florida Department of Education has implemented a new grading system that takes into account multiple metrics, including student performance on state assessments, graduation rates, and progress toward meeting state standards.
“We are pleased that our schools have maintained their high level of performance, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and other factors,” said Dr. Huarte. “We will continue to work to improve student outcomes and provide a high-quality education to all students in Citrus County.”
The Citrus County School District has 16 schools, including 10 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 3 high schools. The district serves approximately 12,000 students and has a diverse student body with a mix of urban and rural communities.
