Citrus County, FL – As the community continues to deal with the challenges of scam calls and hurricane preparedness, residents are speaking out. A concerned citizen, who has been a subscriber to the Citrus County Chronicle since 1974, expressed frustration about the numerous scam calls they receive daily. “It’s unbelievable. I just haven’t seen enough being done about it,” they said. The resident also mentioned that they called the Sheriff’s Office, which also receives a high volume of such calls.
The resident’s concerns were echoed by others, who pointed out that the Republican majority in Citrus County keeps electing Republicans to govern, then complains about the actions of those elected officials. Meanwhile, as the county experiences a strong El Niño influence, residents are reminded to remain vigilant about hurricane awareness and preparedness. The 1992 El Niño year saw Category 5 Hurricane Andrew make landfall in the United States, causing significant damage.
Other concerns were raised about the location of Crystal River City Hall, which has experienced frequent flooding. The building, located at 123 U.S. Highway 19, has seen an average of one flood per decade, with both frequency and severity increasing. Residents are questioning why the city does not consider relocating to a safer area.
Additional concerns were raised about party affiliations of elected officials and the payment of consultants. Some residents suggested that elected officials, except for the sheriff, should not be paid and that free consultations could be sought from volunteers.
