Citrus County Fire Rescue is seeking a grant to upgrade its radio communication system. The department is applying for a $ grant to replace its current radio system, which has become outdated and is no longer compatible with other emergency services agencies.
The current radio system has been in use for over a decade and has become increasingly unreliable, according to Citrus County Fire Rescue Chief, Jeff Robinson. “Our current radio system is in dire need of an upgrade,” Robinson said. “We are hoping to receive this grant to improve our communication capabilities and ensure that we can effectively respond to emergencies in our community.” The grant application was submitted on January 15, 2026, and the department is awaiting a response.
Citrus County Fire Rescue serves the cities of Inverness, Crystal River, and Homosassa, as well as the surrounding rural areas. The department has stations located throughout the county, including Station 1 on North Highway in Inverness and Station 3 on Southeast 5th Avenue in Crystal River.
The grant, if awarded, will be used to purchase new radios and infrastructure to support the upgraded system. The department is also exploring other funding options to support the project.
