The GFWC Crystal River Woman’s Club recently celebrated its 105th anniversary during a general meeting on May 11. The club, which has been serving the local community for over a century, was joined by GFWC State Florida President Terry Reese, GFWC Florida District 5 Director Leatha Holder, and Crystal River Mayor Joe Meek.
The anniversary celebration included a special presentation where Rebecca Culver, president of GFWC Crystal River Woman’s Club, presented a $2,000 check to Crystal River Fire Chief Frank Melillo. The check, made payable to the City of Crystal River, will support the Crystal River High School Firefighter Cadet Program. The program provides valuable exposure to fire and emergency response training for students interested in pursuing careers in emergency services.
The club’s longstanding commitment to volunteerism, philanthropy, and improving the lives of others throughout Citrus County was reflected in the anniversary celebration. For 105 years, the GFWC Crystal River Woman’s Club has been dedicated to serving the local community.
The GFWC Florida President’s Project, which supports scholarships and equipment for the Florida State Fire College (FSFC), was also highlighted during the celebration. The FSFC is a major fire and emergency services training center in Ocala, operated by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training, and offers certification programs for firefighters and other emergency personnel.
