TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) , Gov. Ron DeSantis signed another death warrant on Friday, setting the state up for its tenth execution in 2026, more than all other states combined. Dominick Occhicone, an 80-year-old man from Pasco County, will become the oldest person executed in recorded Florida history.
Occhicone’s execution is scheduled to take place on January 15, 2026. He was convicted of murdering his 72-year-old wife, Barbara Occhicone, in their home in Pasco County. According to court records, Occhicone bludgeoned his wife to death with a hammer during an argument.
The execution will take place at Florida’s State Prison in Raiford. Occhicone’s case has drawn attention due to his advanced age and the circumstances surrounding the crime.
Florida has carried out nine executions in 2023, more than any other state in the country. The state’s death penalty has been the subject of controversy and debate in recent years.
