10-Year-Old Boy Seriously Injured in Crash on SR-52 in Hudson

A 10-year-old Hudson boy suffered serious injuries Friday afternoon, around 12:25 p.m., after being struck by two vehicles while attempting to cross State Road 52 near Victory Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The child, riding a bicycle, was hit by a 45-year-old Hudson woman driving a Kia Niro westbound on SR-52 in the center lane. The woman told troopers she did not see the child before the collision. A second vehicle, a 2018 Dodge Ram, was also involved in the crash. The boy was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The incident is a reminder for drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution when using roadways. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and Hudson Fire Department assisted at the scene.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, pedestrian and bicycle safety is a top priority. In 2020, there were 5,014 pedestrian crashes in Florida, resulting in 3,331 injuries and 251 fatalities.
