The Dunnellon Chamber & Business Association is proud to recognize Ziggy’s Haven Bird Sanctuary, Inc. as its Nonprofit of the Month for March 2026. Founded in 2003, Ziggy’s Haven Bird Sanctuary is a no-kill, no-breed facility dedicated to providing a safe, loving home for parrots in need while educating the community on responsible pet ownership.
Located in Dunnellon, Citrus County, Florida, Ziggy’s Haven has helped place over 1,000 parrots and currently provides lifetime care for 290 parrots. The sanctuary is also home to a variety of other animals, including one donkey, one miniature pony, two pigs, two goats, one goose, two ducks, 12 chickens, seven dogs, and one turkey. Their work goes beyond rescue, offering outreach programs that include food and veterinary assistance, boarding, and educational initiatives for youth and the community.
Ziggy’s Haven Bird Sanctuary is a beautiful example of how one mission can make a lasting impact on both animals and people. Through their dedication, compassion, and education, they have created a place of hope and healing for countless animals and individuals. The sanctuary’s 8th Annual Open House, held on February 22, featured Zeb Ernest of Blue Planet Pets presenting information on proper parrot care to event attendees.
Monty, a 20-year-old Moluccan cockatoo, is one of the many birds residing at Ziggy’s Haven. He was recently seen sitting on the shoulder of volunteer Nick Anderson during Dunnellon High School’s Family Fun Day on May 3, 2025.
