Woman Faces 13 Felony Charges in Animal Cruelty Case

A 22-year-old woman, Kayla R. Jones, of Inverness, faces 13 felony animal cruelty charges after authorities seized more than 90 animals from her property. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at Jones’ residence on Southeast 10th Avenue in Inverness on Wednesday, March 15, around 10:30 a.m.

The investigation revealed that several horses had died on the property due to neglect and poor living conditions. Jones was taken into custody and charged with 13 counts of felony animal cruelty. The seized animals, including horses, goats, and chickens, were transported to a safe location for care and rehabilitation. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is working with local animal welfare organizations to ensure the animals receive proper care.

The charges against Jones include multiple counts of failing to provide necessary food, water, and care to the animals, resulting in their death or suffering. The case is ongoing, and Jones is being held at the Citrus County Detention Center.
