Citrus County Chronicle Letters to the Editor: Pride Month, City Hall Renovations

In a recent letter to the editor, Jim Gouvellis expressed frustration with Pride Month celebrations, stating that he is tired of seeing the rainbow flag and having it “shoved in my face.” He suggested that those who identify as LGBTQ+ should keep their identities private and “keep it in the bedroom.” Gouvellis also criticized the Pride parades, saying they are “disgusting” and need to be “cleaned up.”

However, not everyone shares Gouvellis’ views. A reader praised Gouvellis’ column, saying it was “wonderful” and appreciated his comments about the LGBTQ+ community’s capacity for love. The reader, a retired nurse and hospice worker, also shared her experiences working with people with Alzheimer’s and handicapped children, saying that they too have a “wonderful capacity for love.”

In a separate letter, a Crystal River resident expressed support for revamping and renovating City Hall instead of building a new $10 million building. The resident suggested that the city could follow the example of local businesses, which have “cleaned up, fixed up” and moved forward.

Residents can share their thoughts and opinions on these and other issues by writing to the Citrus County Chronicle.
