Villages Man Dies in Fatal Crash on U.S. 41

A Villages man died after his vehicle struck a tree on U.S. 41 in Citrus County on Monday night, officials said. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on U.S. 41, near the intersection with Southeast 58th Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver, identified as 74-year-old Robert E. Miller, was traveling northbound on U.S. 41 in a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the road and strike a tree. Miller, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The Villages is a popular retirement community located in Sumter County, but the crash occurred in Citrus County, which is part of the broader Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus County region that includes Brooksville, Spring Hill, Dade City, Hudson, Weeki Wachee, Zephyrhills, New Port Richey, Inverness, and Crystal River.

Citrus County Sheriff’s deputies and Inverness Fire Rescue responded to the scene. The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing the investigation into the crash.
