Several veterans organizations across Citrus County have announced upcoming meetings and events for April 2026, including a soup cookoff, appreciation week planning session, and monthly Air Force association gathering.
The Red Tail Memorial Chapter 136 of the Air & Space Forces Association will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in the conference room of the Ocala Airport terminal at 1770 SW 60th Ave. The meeting is open to the public and guests are welcome. The Red Tail Chapter draws its members from Citrus and five other counties plus parts of Lake and Putnam counties, meeting monthly on the third Thursday.
Planning for Citrus County’s 34th Annual Veterans Appreciation Week continues with the next scheduled meeting at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at the Inverness Elks Lodge 2522, located at 3575 E. Lake Place in Hernando. All veteran service organizations, interested civic groups, veterans and individuals are encouraged to attend and participate in the planning process.
The American Legion Post 77 Auxiliary will host a soup cookoff on April 25 during family day. The deadline to enter the competition is April 16 and participation is limited. The chapter name memorializes the Red Tail Squadron, Black airmen who forged a path into cockpits that were mainly for whites only during World War II. The Air & Space Forces Association promotes a dominant United States Air Force, United States Space Force and strong national defense.
