Unemployment Rate Climbs in Citrus County

The unemployment rate in Citrus County has increased, according to recent data. Citrus County’s unemployment rate climbed to 3.8% in January 2024, up from 3.4% in December 2023, and higher than the 3.5% rate recorded in January 2023.

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity reported that Citrus County had a labor force of 49,437 people, with 1,869 unemployed individuals. The county’s unemployment rate is still lower than the state’s overall rate of 4.1%.

Michael Bates, a Chronicle Reporter, noted that “The increase in unemployment is a concern for local businesses and residents. However, the county’s rate remains lower than the state average.”

Some of the industries that have seen job losses include leisure and hospitality, and retail trade. The Citrus County Chronicle will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
