Tunnel to Towers brings Twin Towers steel beam to Land O’ Lakes for 9/11 anniversary

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation displayed a steel beam from the original Twin Towers in Land O’ Lakes on Sunday morning as part of a nationwide tour commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The memorial display drew local residents to honor the victims and first responders who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks.

“Never forget,” said Joe Cassis, who attended the event. “It’s as simple as that. We cannot forget.” The steel beam, recovered from the wreckage of the World Trade Center towers, serves as a tangible reminder of the tragedy that claimed nearly 3,000 lives on September 11, 2001.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was established to honor the memory of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter who ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to reach the Twin Towers on 9/11. The organization has since expanded its mission to support fallen first responders’ families, injured veterans, and their loved ones across the country.

The memorial tour brings pieces of the Twin Towers to communities nationwide, allowing Americans to connect with the history and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Land O’ Lakes stop was part of the foundation’s efforts to ensure the events of September 11 remain in the collective memory of all generations, particularly as the nation approaches the 25th anniversary of the attacks in 2026.
