NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. – A Wednesday morning shooting in New Port Richey prompted authorities to place three nearby schools on controlled campus status as law enforcement investigated the incident. According to information released by officials, the shooting occurred near the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and Colonial Drive, in the vicinity of Gulf Middle School.
Investigators say a teenage boy was shot at around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Two suspects are in custody. The boy was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities did not release the boy’s age or condition. The incident led to nearby schools being placed on controlled campus status as a precaution.
The schools affected included Gulf Middle School, New Port Richey High School, and Ridgewood High School. Students were allowed to enter the buildings but were not permitted to leave during the day without parental permission. Parents and guardians were advised to pick up their children at the designated school dismissal time.
