Renee Christopher-McPheeters of Inverness is urging residents to vote for Amendment 3, also known as “Save Our Homes From Excessive Property Taxes,” which will be on the ballot on November 3, 2026. The amendment aims to increase the homestead exemption from $50,000 to $150,000 in 2027 and to $250,000 in 2028. Additionally, the Florida Legislature will be required to schedule the full elimination of homestead property tax.
Amendment 3, which is officially known as CS/HJR 1, will be available for early voting from October 22nd through October 31st. Christopher-McPheeters expressed her support for the amendment, citing the historical significance of reducing property taxes, especially during the nation’s 250th anniversary. She noted that the Declaration of Independence was primarily adopted due to overtaxation by the British.
Residents of Citrus County, including those in Inverness, can make their voices heard by casting their votes for Amendment 3. This amendment has the potential to provide significant relief to homeowners in the area by reducing their residential property taxes.
