Preserve Citrus County’s Charm, Resident Urges

Justin Krumholtz of Inverness has lived in Citrus County for 41 years and is concerned about the impact of growth on the area’s small-town charm. He believes that if people want the amenities of a larger community, they should move to a place like the Villages.

Krumholtz, who has been coming to Citrus County since 1978, values the county’s natural environment, country living, and small businesses. He thinks that the county’s infrastructure cannot support further growth and that new development would lead to overcrowding and strain on local resources. “We need to protect our gem,” he said. “We don’t have the infrastructure nor can we afford the growth. We can’t even fix the roads we have.”

Krumholtz suggests that instead of clearing land for new development, people should consider renovating existing properties. “Let’s not clear land just to make a profit and sell off our water to leave the county,” he said. “Let’s not destroy our home to turn a buck.” He believes that the county’s economy, which is based on tourism, would suffer if it becomes overcrowded and loses its unique character.

Krumholtz’s comments are relevant to residents of Citrus County, including those in Inverness, Crystal River, and other surrounding areas. His concerns about growth and development are also relevant to neighboring counties, including Hernando and Pasco.
