The Pasco-Hernando State College baseball team, led by Coach Lyndon Coleman, is set to defend their national championship title at the National Junior College Division II Athletic Association World Series. The team will begin their journey on Sunday at 5 p.m. against the winner of Saturday’s game between East Central Community College and Wake Tech Community College at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Oklahoma.
Last season, the Bobcats spent most of the year ranked No. 1 in the nation and won the championship by defeating Pearl River Community College in dramatic fashion, hitting two grand slams in the same inning. This season, the team has faced some challenges, including injuries to sophomore catcher Juan Lopez-Faria and freshman right-handed pitcher Gavin Gargiulo, but they still managed to win the Florida College System Activities Association Division II Region 8 State Tournament and the NJCAA Division II South District championship.
The Bobcats finished the regular season with a 36-22 record and were ranked No. 6 in the nation. They played 39 games against ranked opponents, gaining valuable experience and preparing them for the World Series. Coach Coleman emphasized that the team wants to wear the target on their chest, not on their back, and they are ready to run forward and make their mark.
The team’s journey to the World Series is a testament to their hard work and dedication. With their sights set on back-to-back championships, the Bobcats are ready to take on the best teams in the nation and bring home another title.
