A 21-year-old Lutz man was cited for speeding at 135 mph in a 50 mph zone on State Road 54 in Pasco County on Monday night. According to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver told troopers he was “just with a girl and was in a good mood,” and was “just being stupid.” The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol trooper was traveling east on State Road 54 when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The trooper conducted a traffic stop and cited the driver for speeding. The driver, whose name was not released, was cooperative with troopers during the stop.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the stop. The Florida Highway Patrol is urging drivers to be safe and responsible on the roads. “We want to remind everyone to always follow the posted speed limits and to never drive under the influence of alcohol or other substances,” said an FHP spokesperson.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was a contributing factor in 26% of all traffic fatalities in 2020. The Florida Highway Patrol is committed to reducing speeding and other traffic-related incidents on Florida’s roads.
