The UF/IFAS Citrus County Master Gardener Volunteers will be hosting a series of plant seminars throughout May. The seminars will provide information on the four major turfgrasses used for Florida lawns: St. Augustine grass, Bahia grass, Zoysia grass, and Bermuda grass. A brief review of turfgrass biology and other groundcovers for Florida lawns will also be presented. The seminars will be held at various library locations on the following dates: May 13 at Central Ridge in Beverly Hills, May 20 at Floral City, May 25 at Crystal River, and May 28 at Homosassa. A Zoom presentation is also available on May 16 for those who prefer to participate online. Registration is required for the Zoom presentation and can be done through Eventbrite or by contacting the Citrus County Extension office at [email protected].
The American Legion Post 58 will be hosting a Mother’s Day Craft Fair on May 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature vendors selling handmade items, a 50/50 raffle, and breakfast and lunch options. The Inverness Art Co-Op will be offering a Fused Glass Tea Light Holder or Night Light Workshop on May 15 from 1-3 p.m. Participants will design and create a decorative fused glass piece using sparkling frit glass and shaped glass pieces. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering a boating safety class on May 16, the first day of National Safe Boating Week. The class will cover boating safety and earn participants their Florida Safe Boater Card.
The Supervisor of Elections Office will be visiting various locations throughout Citrus County in May to provide voter registration and other services. The locations and dates include: Market at the Depot on May 16, Friends of Citrus on May 21, and Coastal Region Library on May 28. The office will also be closed on May 25 in observance of Memorial Day and will reopen on May 26.
