Citrus County residents can make a difference in their community by helping seniors’ pets and donating to the Citrus County Abuse Shelter Association (CASA). The Citrus County Meals on Wheels program has started the PetMeals program to provide supplemental meals for seniors’ pets, allowing seniors to no longer choose between feeding their pets and essential needs like medication. Donations of unopened dry dog and cat food can be dropped off at three Community Centers: West Citrus, 8940 W. Veterans Drive, Homosassa; Central Citrus, 2804 W. Marc Knighton Court, Lecanto; and East Citrus, 9907 E. Gulf to Lake Highway, Inverness. For more information, call Support Services at 352-527-5930.
CASA is also seeking donations of household and cleaning supplies, pantry and food items, and clothing. Needed items include ibuprofen and Tylenol, paper towels, Kleenex, 30-gallon trash bags, laundry detergent, and Lysol spray and wipes. Food donations can include breakfast items, crackers, tea, eggs, butter, sugar and sweeteners, kid-friendly drinks and snacks, milk, cheese, Ramen, beverages, mac and cheese, fresh and/or canned fruits and vegetables, lunch meat, chicken or ground chicken, beef or ground beef, pork or ground pork, Alfredo sauce and spaghetti sauce, coffee creamer, cooking spices, flour, jam and jelly, honey, barbecue sauce, taco seasoning kits, and popcorn. Clothing donations include men’s L-XL shirts, men’s 34-36 jeans, and men’s 10-11 shoes. Donations can be dropped off at the CASA Outreach office, 1100 E. Turner Camp Road, Inverness, or at their alternative drop-off location, Carol’s Inter.
In other local news, the CDJR Cruise-In will take place on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Plaza CDJR dealership, 2077 State Road 44, Inverness. This bimonthly event is hosted by Plaza CDJR and the Citrus MOPARS Car Club and is free and open to all makes, models, and years of cars and trucks. Food and beverages will be available to show entrants and guests while supplies last.
The Citrus County Chronicle will host its Primary Election Candidate Forum on Tuesday, July 7, at the Citrus County Auditorium in Inverness. Doors will open at 5 p.m. The League of Women Voters (LWV) of Citrus County will also host a meet-and-greet with candidates for the Florida House of Representatives on Wednesday, July 8, at the Coastal Region Library in Crystal River.
