On March 25, Central High School senior Abraham Clemetson made school history in weightlifting, breaking the Bears’ record for the second-highest weight total in the unlimited weight class at a meet at Weeki Wachee High School. Clemetson lifted 325 pounds, surpassing the previous second-place record of 320 pounds, which had stood since 1994.
Abraham, who has been weightlifting for the last two years, had been working hard to beat the record. He originally hoped to earn a gold medal in the sport but decided to focus on breaking the school record to honor his late grandmother. After achieving the milestone, Abraham felt excited and happy but also sad, as he had dedicated his weightlifting season to her. His mother, Demetria Clemetson, expressed her pride in her son’s accomplishment, saying, “I am very proud. Even though we had some obstacles and some grieving time because, again, when he found out about his grandma, he still pushed through and did an amazing job.”
The top mark of 445 pounds in the unlimited weight class is still held by Bryan Goolsby, who set the record in 1996. Abraham’s achievement is a significant accomplishment, and his dedication to weightlifting and his grandmother’s memory is inspiring. The Clemetson family and Central High School community are celebrating Abraham’s success.
