Learn about pollinators at free seminars in Citrus County

The University of Florida’s Extension Master Gardeners will present free seminars on pollination in July at various library locations in Citrus County. The seminars, which start at 1 p.m., will cover the importance of pollinators such as butterflies, hummingbirds, honeybees, and bats in maintaining the local flora.

The seminars will be held on the following dates: July 6 at the Lakes Region library in Inverness, July 8 at the Central Ridge library in Beverly Hills, July 15 at the Floral City library, July 23 at the Homosassa library, and July 27 at the Crystal River library. A Zoom presentation will also be available on July 20 for those who prefer to participate online. Registration is required and can be done through Eventbrite or by contacting the Citrus County Extension office at [email protected].

The seminars will feature UF/IFAS Extension Master Gardener volunteers who will answer gardening questions and provide information on pollinators. Topics will include the various breeding systems possessed by flowering plants, wind and water pollination, and the role of insects, hummingbirds, and bats in pollination.

For more information, residents can visit the University of Florida’s website or contact the Citrus County Extension office. The Extension Master Gardeners encourage everyone to learn about the importance of pollinators and how to support them in their gardens.
