Inverness Honors Brannen Bank’s 100-Year Legacy

The City of Inverness recently recognized Brannen Bank’s 100-year legacy, presenting a proclamation to celebrate the family-owned institution’s century of service to Citrus County and surrounding communities. The Inverness City Council honored Brannen Bank on Tuesday, with Councilwoman Linda Bega reading the proclamation, which acknowledged the bank’s longevity, community involvement, and economic contributions since its founding on July 1, 1926.

Founded by George H. Brannen Sr. as the Bank of Homosassa, the institution later relocated to Inverness in 1929 and became the Bank of Inverness. According to the bank’s history, it was the only bank in Citrus County to survive the economic crash of 1929 and the Great Depression. Today, Brannen Bank employs approximately 130 people and operates 12 locations serving Citrus, Hernando, and Marion counties. President Matt Brannen accepted the proclamation, thanking city officials, customers, and residents for helping sustain the institution.

The proclamation recognized Brannen Bank’s commitment to supporting local commerce, fostering financial stability, and investing in the people and community it serves. Brannen Bank CEO Joe Brannen was present at the ceremony, surrounded by bank staff, members of the Inverness City Council, and its city manager. The bank’s 100th anniversary is on July 1.
