Inspiring musical production promotes anti-bullying message at Crystal River High School

Crystal River High School’s spring musical, “Mean Girls: The Musical,” will open on April 16, promoting an anti-bullying message and encouraging students to be true to themselves. The show, originally a 2004 film written by Tina Fey, features a modern storyline with catchy music and a rap song.

The musical follows Cady Heron, played by 17-year-old Belle Bedee, a fish out of water who moves to an American public high school after being homeschooled in Africa. She infiltrates “The Plastics,” a clique of girls who think they run the school, including Regina George, played by 18-year-old Abrianna Hart, Gretchen Wieners, played by 18-year-old Jeralyn Lay, and Karen Smith, played by 18-year-old Cora Sessions. Crystal River High Theater Director Raymond Lay said he was drawn to this show because “It’s pretty modern. The kids love the music and it’s got a really good message about bullying and about being who you are.”

The show’s message is timely and relevant, especially for high school students. Bullying is a pervasive issue that affects many students, and this musical aims to address it in a creative and engaging way. The production features a talented cast and crew, and promises to be an entertaining and thought-provoking experience.

For more information about the musical, including ticket prices and showtimes, visit the Crystal River High School website or contact the school’s theater department. Don’t miss this inspiring production, which promises to leave audiences with a renewed appreciation for the importance of being true to oneself and standing up against bullying.
