The Hernando High baseball team’s season came to an end with a pair of losses in a best-of-three series against South Sumter in the Class 3A-Region II championship at Emerson Field on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
Fourth-seeded South Sumter defeated third-seeded Hernando 8-0 in the series opener on Friday. The Raiders (19-11) then secured a Final Four berth with an 8-3 victory against Hernando on Saturday. Hernando ended its season with a 23-8 record. “We did not play well at all,” Hernando coach Tim Sims said. “In every phase , hitting, pitching, fielding, base running and coaching , South Sumter did it much better than we did. We gave them some gifts with walks and errors. But they took full advantage of those. Give them a lot of credit. They’re a good team,”
