On Saturday, April 11, people of all ages gathered at Tom Varn Park in Hernando County for A New Generation’s second annual Walk for Life, aiming to raise funds to support mothers, fathers, and babies. The event, which drew a strong community turnout, surpassed previous donation totals, despite similar registration numbers to last year.
The Walk for Life supports A New Generation, a non-profit pregnancy and relationship resource center that provides free services including pregnancy testing, limited ultrasounds, and parenting education classes. The organization has helped save 263 babies over the past year and is currently developing a new location in the area behind the Coastal Way shopping center to expand its services.
Cheryl Bennett, executive director of A New Generation, highlighted the organization’s focus on supporting fathers, who are often overlooked in pregnancy support efforts. The center has hired a full-time men’s program director to provide guidance and support for fathers, encouraging them to participate in the decision-making process alongside mothers.
The event featured participants who walked, ran, or even “ hobbled” through the course, showcasing the community’s commitment to supporting life and families. A New Generation’s services include free pregnancy testing, well-woman referrals, baby boutique, fatherhood mentoring, birth mom support, and reproductive loss support.
