Health Notes: Nursing Scholarship, Travel Health Program, and Dementia Workshops

The Florida Department of Health in Citrus County (DOH-Citrus) and local organizations are offering various health-related services and programs. Applications are being accepted for the 2025 Penny Duteau Nursing Scholarship, which is open to Citrus County residents who have been accepted into a recognized school of nursing program. The application deadline is July 7, and submissions can be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to Penny Duteau Nursing Scholarship Fund, 109 S Hunting Lodge Drive, Inverness, FL 34453.

DOH-Citrus has launched a Travel Health Program to protect residents’ health when traveling internationally. The program includes a consultation with a travel health specialist who will advise on specific diseases and health concerns based on the traveler’s destination. The specialist will also provide information on how to protect one’s health. The consultation fee is $100, and services are provided by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call 352-513-6090. Additionally, Citrus County Libraries will host free ABC of Dementia workshops countywide in 2026, with remaining scheduled sessions on June 11 and November 16 at the Coastal Region Library, 8619 W. Crystal St., Crystal River, and July 20 and December at other locations.

The workshops aim to educate attendees about dementia and provide resources for those affected. For more information on the Travel Health Program, residents can contact DOH-Citrus at 352-513-6090. Those interested in the nursing scholarship should review the application requirements and submit their applications by July 7. More information on the ABC of Dementia workshops can be found by visiting the Citrus County Libraries website or contacting them directly.
