Groundbreaking Held for Children’s Advocacy Center in Brooksville

On Wednesday, YouThrive and local leaders officially broke ground on the new Children’s Advocacy Center of Hernando County. The 11,000-square-foot facility, located on Jacqueline Road in Brooksville, will allow the nonprofit organization to better care for children who have been victims of sexual abuse.

The center, led by Director Janine Kell, will provide a child-friendly environment where children can discuss their abuse, receive medical exams, and trauma therapy. The project was made possible with the help of local lawmakers, including then Senator Blaise Ingoglia and Representative Jeff Holcomb, who helped secure state funding appropriations. The new center will be co-located with the University of Florida’s Child Protection Team and will work closely with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Children and Families, and the State Attorney’s Office.

The need for a new location arose due to the increasing number of children being served by the previous 3,400-square-foot center, which opened 18 years ago. The new facility will provide optimal care to abused children, offering services such as trauma therapy programs, medical exams, and forensic interviews.

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Hernando County is a crucial resource for the community, providing essential services to victims of child abuse. With the new facility, the organization will be able to serve more children and provide them with the care and support they need to heal.
