A Dunnellon woman was arrested on Tuesday after dozens of animals were found severely neglected at her business, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office said.
The incident occurred at 13650 N. US Highway 19, Dunnellon, in Citrus County, Florida. On Tuesday, at approximately 10:30 a.m., deputies responded to a report of animal neglect at the business. Upon arrival, they found multiple animals in various stages of neglect, including dogs, cats, and other animals. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Jennifer Leigh Swearingen, was taken into custody and charged with multiple counts of animal neglect.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about animal neglect or abuse to contact them at (352) 749-3111. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
