DADE CITY, FL – The Dade City First United Methodist Church, located at 37628 Church Avenue, announced on July 1 that Dr. David Charlton has been called to lead the congregation as Senior Pastor, effective immediately. Dr. Charlton, a United States Army veteran, brings over two decades of pastoral experience and recently received his Doctorate in Ministry from Candler School of Theology at Emory University.
According to a statement from the church, Dr. Charlton has “a life story rooted in service,” heeding the call to ministry following his military service and his time as a juvenile probation officer. “His journey from military service to ministry is a testament to the calling that defines his life,” said Ed Timmons, Chair of the Staff Parish Relations Committee. “We are honored to welcome Dr. Charlton, Donna, and Joshua to the Dade City Family.” Dr. Charlton joined the congregation from Burton Memorial United Methodist Church in Tavernier, Florida. David, his wife Donna, and their son Joshua are excited to become active members of the community throughout Dade City. “Donna, Joshua, and I are absolutely thrilled to call Dade City home,” Dr. Charlton said. “This church has a beautiful, deep-rooted history, and my prayer is that we continue to build on that foundation to create a vibrant, welcoming space for everyone , from our treasured seniors to young families seeking a place for their children to grow in faith. We want to be a lighthouse for the entire community.”
Founded 140 years ago in 1886, the Dade City First United Methodist Church is one of the oldest congregations in historic Dade City. Members are looking forward to Dr. Charlton’s leadership. “Dr. Charlton is a scholar, a shepherd, and a servant leader. His depth of experience positions him well to lead one of Pasco County’s most historic and beloved congregations,” said Cindy Harper, chairperson of the Church Council.
