Downtown Inverness Art Walk Connects Artists, Businesses, and Visitors

Downtown Inverness transformed into a community-wide gallery on June 6 as artists, musicians, business owners, and visitors came together for the latest Downtown Inverness Art Walk. The collaborative event featured art exhibits, demonstrations, workshops, and live entertainment at businesses throughout the historic courthouse square district.

Participants began their evening at the Inverness Art Co-Op, located at 109 N. Apopka Ave., where they received maps and event information before setting out to explore more than a dozen participating locations. Featured artists included Inverness artist and illustrator Tom Rogers, whose highly detailed paintings draw inspiration from Dutch master Hieronymus Bosch while exploring themes of environmental impact and modern society, and multimedia artist Barbie Newcomb, whose eclectic collection spans charcoal, watercolor, oil pastel, and acrylic works.

Inside the Inverness Art Co-Op, founder and gallery director Suz Kelley welcomed guests and introduced them to resident artists and featured exhibits. The gallery’s America 250 patriotic-themed exhibition showcased works by Sharon Bechtold, Carmen De Santiago, Mary Ann Gilfillan, Deb Mackes, Mary Ellen Radloff, Linda Reitz, Marina Veiler, Marci Yocum, and Loretta Bell. Twysted Vyne owner Keith Shewbart discussed the venue’s ongoing commitment to supporting local artists during the Downtown Inverness Art Walk. Long before the art walk was established, the business dedicated permanent wall space to showcasing local artwork.

Newcomb described her style by saying, “I’m ADHD so my art is very much like my thoughts , all over the place.” Visitors also met artists and learned about their creative processes during demonstrations and workshops.
