Crystal River High School’s track athletes, senior Katie Bland and junior Olivia Komara, secured district titles in their respective events on Monday night, April 15, at the District 3-2A track meet held at Spring Hill High School in Spring Hill, Florida.
The event saw Bland, 17, claim the top spot in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:04.89, while Komara, 16, took first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.55. Their performances helped the Crystal River Sharks compete strongly in the district meet.
Meanwhile, a legal dispute is brewing over the proposed development of Betz Farm, a 122-acre property in Crystal River. The Citrus County Commission recently approved a rezoning request for the site, paving the way for a new development. However, some residents and environmental groups have expressed concerns about the potential impact on local wildlife and water quality.
The development plans for Betz Farm, located near the intersection of Northeast U.S. Highway 19 and Northwest 1st Avenue in Crystal River, include the construction of residential and commercial units. Opponents argue that the project could harm the local ecosystem and increase traffic in the area.
Residents and stakeholders are advised to stay informed about the project’s progress and potential public hearings. More information can be found on the Citrus County Government’s website or by contacting the Citrus County Planning and Development Department directly.
