The Crystal River Nights concert series kicked off on Friday, March 17, with a large turnout in downtown Crystal River. The event, which was held at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Northeast 1st Avenue, featured live music and local vendors. However, the evening was marred by a tragic incident that occurred earlier in the day.
Distillery owner Dave Mohr, 38, died following an explosion at his business, Moonshine Springs Distillery, located at 1111 Northeast 1st Avenue in Crystal River. The explosion occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Mohr was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation by the Citrus County Fire Department and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
The Crystal River Nights concert series is a monthly event that takes place on the third Friday of each month from March to October. The series features live music, food, and drinks, and is hosted by the Crystal River Downtown Development Council. Despite the tragedy, the concert went on as planned, with attendees showing their support for the local community.
The Crystal River Police Department and the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office provided security and support for the event, which drew a large crowd of people from across Citrus County. The event was well-organized, and attendees praised the efforts of the local authorities in ensuring public safety.
