The city of Crystal River is seeking input from residents on a proposed overlay district, while Citrus County has issued a burn ban due to dry conditions. The Crystal River City Council held a public hearing on Monday night, March 18, at 6:00 PM, at City Hall, 851 S. Ponce de Leon Blvd., to discuss the proposed overlay district.
The overlay district would aim to preserve the city’s natural and historic resources, while promoting economic growth and development. Residents can provide feedback on the proposal through an online survey or by attending one of the upcoming community meetings. Meanwhile, Citrus County has issued a burn ban effective immediately, due to dry conditions and high fire danger. The ban prohibits outdoor burning of any kind, including yard waste and debris. Residents are urged to check the Citrus County Government website for updates on the burn ban and to report any wildfires to 911.
Some of the key features of the proposed overlay district include:
- Preservation of natural resources, such as wetlands and wildlife habitats
- Protection of historic buildings and districts
- Promotion of mixed-use development and infill growth
- Enhancement of community character and identity
Residents can learn more about the proposed overlay district and provide feedback through the city’s website or by contacting the City Planning Department at (352) 795-1400. For more information on the burn ban, residents can visit the Citrus County Government website or call (352) 749-3111.
