Crystal River, Citrus County – A 1.2-mile repaving project along U.S. 19 in Crystal River, which began on June 22, 2026, has raised questions among community members. City Manager Audra Curts addressed the concerns during a recent meeting with the Crystal River Area Council, clarifying what is and isn’t part of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project.
Curts emphasized that a proposed golf cart crossing near Three Sisters Springs is not included in the FDOT paving scope and remains a separate request under review by the state. The city has already submitted additional information requested by FDOT and is awaiting a decision. The project has been simplified due to physical constraints at the intersection, which prevent major redesign work such as adding dedicated left-turn lanes.
The city believes it may be able to complete the work without major infrastructure funding, depending on FDOT approval. Curts plans to follow up again if needed, as she was told to expect a response after additional review time. The project involves resurfacing work and may include striping, which would be a low-cost addition.
