Crescent Community Clinic will host its “Happy Harvesting, Hope for a Healthier Tomorrow” fundraiser on September 19 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Heather Country Club, located at 7406 St. Andrews Boulevard in Weeki Wachee. The event aims to educate residents on proper nutrition while raising critical funds to expand care for uninsured Hernando County residents. Admission is $25 per person, and tickets are available through Zeffy.
Executive Director Christina Reyes said poor diet is a driving force behind chronic illness in the community. “That is what we are trying to do with this event, to give people knowledge of how to eat correctly, because people don’t know how to eat correctly,” Reyes said. “I think that is a main problem that is causing a lot of issues with not only diabetes but heart disease and other illnesses is the lack of proper diet.”
The afternoon event will feature fresh fruits and vegetables, a silent auction, and two guest speakers. Dr. Husam Abucarad and Registered Nurse Erica Clipd, who teaches the clinic’s diabetes education class, are both scheduled to present. The idea originated during a board meeting when former Executive Director Barbara Swineburg proposed the fundraiser to raise community awareness about healthy eating habits.
Crescent Community Clinic opened in Brooksville in 2007 after a group of Hernando County physicians recognized a growing crisis among local residents. “People were lining up outside to come in to have free care,” Reyes said. The clinic serves approximately 23,000 uninsured residents between the ages of 18 and 64 across Hernando County. It partners with major health systems including Tampa General Hospital and HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital to deliver that care.
The clinic has dedicated nearly two decades to treating chronic health conditions among uninsured, underserved, and low-income residents. For more information about the fundraiser or the clinic’s services, visit crescentclinic.org or read the original report from the Hernando Sun.
