Citrus County residents have two upcoming health and emergency preparedness opportunities this fall. A free Community Emergency Response Team training course begins Sept. 5, and HCA Florida Citrus Hospital hosts a free golf injury seminar Aug. 11.
The Basic CERT class will be held at the Emergency Operations Center in Lecanto across three Saturdays: Sept. 5, 12, and 19, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The course covers basic first aid, search and rescue, fire suppression, and cribbing, which is the technique of lifting heavy objects using ordinary items. There is no cost to attend. On Tuesday, Aug. 11, HCA Florida Citrus Hospital will present a free seminar called “Pain Relief for Golfers” at 2 p.m. at the Citrus Memorial Health Foundation YMCA, located at 4127 W. Norvell Bryant Highway in Lecanto. A licensed physical therapist from HCA Florida Citrus Hospital will lead the event, focusing on common golf-related injuries affecting the back, shoulder, hip, and knee.
Attendees will learn how repetitive motion and poor swing mechanics can lead to chronic pain, the role of physical therapy in improving flexibility, strength, and joint mobility, and when surgical options may be appropriate for conditions such as rotator cuff tears, spinal stenosis, or joint degeneration. The seminar is open to golfers of all experience levels.
