Citrus County residents have several important community events and deadlines coming up in August 2026, including a Veterans Appreciation Week planning meeting, a primary election Vote-by-Mail deadline, a Veterans In The Classroom registration opportunity, and a free Back-to-School Bash in Dunnellon.
The Veterans Appreciation Week Ad Hoc Coordinating Committee will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Inverness Elks Lodge 2522, located at 3575 E. Lake Place in Hernando. The meeting will focus on planning supporting events for Citrus County’s 34th annual Veterans Appreciation Week. All veteran service organizations, civic groups, and interested individuals are encouraged to attend and participate.
Citrus County Supervisor of Elections Maureen “Mo” Baird is reminding voters to return completed Vote-by-Mail ballots before 7 p.m. on Election Night, Tuesday, Aug. 18, for the 2026 Primary Election. Ballots may be mailed at no cost or dropped off at the Supervisor of Elections Office, 1500 N. Meadowcrest Blvd. in Crystal River, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early Voting runs Aug. 7 through Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at five locations:
- Central Ridge Community Center, 77 Civic Circle, Beverly Hills
- Supervisor of Elections Office, 1500 N. Meadowcrest Blvd., Crystal River
- Homosassa Public Library, 4100 S. Grandmarch Ave., Homosassa
- Inverness City Hall, 212 W. Main St., Inverness
- Central Ridge Library, 425 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Beverly Hills
Voters should note that Vote-by-Mail ballots cannot be accepted at polling precincts on Election Day and must be returned to the Supervisor of Elections Office. More information is available at citruselections.com.
Veterans interested in sharing their military experiences with local students can register for the Veterans In The Classroom program, which runs Oct. 26 through Nov. 6 in Citrus County schools. Registration closes Sept. 18 and is available on the Citrus County School District website under the “Popular Links” tab. Separately, the Dunnellon Women of the Moose Chapter 1662 will host a free inaugural Back-to-School Bash on Saturday, Aug. 1, beginning at 11 a.m. at Dunnellon Moose Lodge 2308, 11890 N. Florida Ave. in Dunnellon. Families can pick up free backpacks and school supplies while supplies last, Safe Surfing Child ID Kits, and school-related notary services. A bloodmobile will also be on site. Hot dogs, chips, soda, and water will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the chapter’s General Fund supporting Mooseheart, Moosehaven, and other Moose charitable programs.
