The Citrus County Board of Commissioners has voted in favor of a temporary moratorium on data centers, giving the county time to gather more information on the impact of these facilities.
The moratorium, which was approved on Monday night, April 15, 2024, at the Citrus County Board of Commissioners meeting held at 405A W. Adams St, Inverness, will allow the county to assess the effects of data centers on the local infrastructure, environment, and economy. Commissioner
Some residents and officials have expressed concerns about the potential impact of data centers on the county’s natural resources, including the Floridian Aquifer, which supplies drinking water to the area.
The county will use the time to study the issue and potentially develop new regulations or ordinances to govern the development of data centers in Citrus County.
