A Brooksville couple, Gregory Scott Worrell, 54, and his fiancée, Sheila Toby Steis, 35, are facing extortion charges after investigators say they threatened to release intimate videos unless their monetary demands were met. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into allegations that Worrell and Steis threatened to distribute sexually explicit videos involving their friends.
According to authorities, Worrell and Steis allegedly obtained the videos and then used them to extort money from their victims. The investigation began after multiple victims came forward with complaints. Worrell and Steis were arrested and charged with one count of extortion each. They are being held at the Hernando County Detention Center.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the case to come forward. “We take these types of crimes very seriously,” said Sheriff Bill Way. “We will do everything in our power to bring those responsible to justice.” The case is ongoing, and more charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
