On Friday, July 10, 2026, three candidates for two Citrus County Commission seats presented their visions for the future of Citrus County at the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce Primary Candidate Political Forum Luncheon in Citrus Hills.
The forum featured District 2 challenger Stacey Worthington, District 4 incumbent Rebecca Bays, and District 4 challenger Jennifer Grogan, who discussed growth, economic development, housing, conservation, and the role of county government. District 2 incumbent Diana Finegan and District 4 challenger Holli Herndon declined to attend. The candidates answered 10 questions without receiving them in advance.
The forum included business owners and local and state politicians and leaders. When asked about their vision for Citrus County over the next 10 to 20 years, all three candidates pointed to affordability, jobs, and preserving quality of life as key issues facing the county. Bays said Citrus County needs to diversify its economy, noting that about 80 percent of the county’s tax base comes from residential property.
She emphasized the need for long-term planning and attracting commercial and industrial investment to provide future growth. Worthington and Grogan also highlighted the importance of affordable housing and economic development. The Citrus County Chamber of Commerce event allowed voters to hear directly from the candidates and make informed decisions ahead of the August 18, 2026 primary.
