They were farmers, merchants, and lawyers who had come together to declare the 13 American colonies’ independence from Great Britain. This bold move marked the beginning of the United States of America as a sovereign nation. Today, America remains a beacon of freedom and democracy, continuing to inspire people around the world.
In Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus Counties, residents are celebrating this milestone with various events and activities. Local communities, including Brooksville, Spring Hill, Dade City, Hudson, Weeki Wachee, Zephyrhills, New Port Richey, Inverness, and Crystal River, are reflecting on the significance of American independence and the principles it represents.
As the nation looks back on its 250-year history, there is a renewed focus on the values of liberty, justice, and equality that have shaped its development. From the early settlers to the present day, the American experiment has been a work in progress, with its citizens continually striving to build a more perfect union.
