SPRING HILL, FL , The Senior Project of Hernando County received a $3,000 grant from the 100 Men Who Care Nature Coast chapter on Monday, July 13, 2026, during the group’s quarterly meeting at Wellington Estates in Spring Hill. The funds will be used to assemble and distribute care packages filled with essential toiletries for isolated local seniors and veterans.
Marilyn Snyder Lam, President of The Senior Project, presented the organization’s community impact to the assembled members alongside two other competing nonprofits. Kimberly Buford and Georgionna Waite represented the PACE Center for Girls, while Carlos and Michele Nunez spoke on behalf of The Humane Society of the Nature Coast. Each group received five minutes to make their case, followed by a Q&A session and a silent vote by the 100 Men Who Care members. The Senior Project was selected as this quarter’s primary beneficiary.
According to Pat Thomas, an assistant with The Senior Project, each care bag costs approximately $14 to assemble and includes shampoo, lotion, and toothpaste. The organization’s mission focuses on combating the growing isolation felt by local seniors and veterans, many of whom live alone or without family nearby. The group provides personal visits, community events, and these essential care packages to address that need. The initial $3,000 check covers roughly 214 bags, and additional donations will continue to be collected for The Senior Project through the end of September.
This grant marks a significant milestone for the 100 Men Who Care Nature Coast chapter, which has now surpassed $20,000 in total donations to Hernando County charities in just over a year of operation. The philanthropic model is straightforward: members each contribute $100 per quarter, and the pooled funds go directly to a selected local nonprofit.
