A 26-year-old Wisconsin woman, Denise Marie Soto, was arrested in Weeki Wachee, Florida, after calling 911 to request a ride back to Tampa. According to an arrest affidavit, Soto called 911 on Monday night, expecting it to be an ‘Uber’ service.
Soto, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was unhappy with the dispatcher’s response and declined to speak with deputies when they arrived on scene at the local bar-restaurant in Weeki Wachee. She was subsequently taken into custody and charged with calling 911 with intent to annoy, abuse, or harass. Soto was booked at the Hernando County Detention Center.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office handled the incident. The case highlights the importance of knowing the proper use of emergency services like 911.
