The Citrus County TaxWatch organization responded to criticism over a recent press conference. According to TaxWatch, the press conference was held to address concerns about the county’s budget and tax rates.
The press conference was held on January 15, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce, located at 915 Citrus Ave, Crystal River, FL 34429. During the conference, TaxWatch representatives discussed their findings on the county’s budget and provided recommendations for reducing costs and improving efficiency.
Criticism of the press conference came from some local officials, who argued that TaxWatch’s claims were inaccurate and misleading. However, TaxWatch defended their research and conclusions, stating that they were based on publicly available data and careful analysis.
TaxWatch Chairperson, Jane Smith, stated, “We understand that our findings may not be popular with everyone, but we believe it is essential to have an open and honest discussion about the county’s budget and tax rates. We hope that our recommendations will be taken seriously and considered by local officials.”
Local officials, including Citrus County Commissioner, John Doe, have been invited to discuss the issue further. The Citrus County Chronicle will continue to provide updates on this story as more information becomes available.
