The Springstead Eagles (9-2) defeated the Central Bears (4-7) 5-0 in beach volleyball action at home in Spring Hill on Thursday afternoon. Eagles Head Coach Andrea Gracey’s squad won decisive victories in the first two sets between the two, three, and five seeds, while matches between the ones and fours extended to three sets.
“Beach volleyball is a strategy game,” Coach Gracey said. “What team is going to outlast, outsmart on the beach volleyball court? I was really proud of our pairs. We had some new ones today with grad bash. I was missing some of our starters. So, it was nice to have the girls have an opportunity to play with different seeds that they might have not played and came out with a 5-0.”
The Eagles’ two seeds Grace Montanez and Jayda Swift dominated their Central counterparts with a commanding 21-9 first set victory before securing the match with a more competitive 21-16 second set win. The one seeds match featured Springstead’s Sylvia Hatfield and Mackenna Chambers facing Central’s Isabella Colon and Dasha Prasalov, with the home team taking the first set 21-11.
Central responded strongly in the second set, building early leads of 6-1 and 14-7 before closing out their own 21-11 victory to force a decisive third set. Coach Gracey praised Central’s effort throughout the match, highlighting their determination and strategic play.
“They hustle. Central, even in indoor,” Gracey said. “I love the heart that I see on the Central team, because they don’t let a ball hit the ground. So, I tell my girls, especially in the one seed, it might look a little less traditional pass-set-hit coming at you. I really appreciated the hustle and heart on the Central side of the court because that puts my girls in a position of reading the ball.”
