Spring Conditions Spark Excellent Fishing in Pasco County

As spring conditions arrive, fishing in Pasco County has been ‘on fire,’ with anglers experiencing great success in both inshore and offshore waters. According to Capt. Josh Fritz and Capt. Matt Cowden, local fishing guides, the warming conditions have brought various species into the area, making it an ideal time for fishing.

The inshore bite has been particularly good, with trout, redfish, and snook being caught around mangrove lines, points, and oyster bars. Live sardines have been a popular bait choice, but artificial soft-plastic jerk and swim baits have also been effective when rigged with a circle hook and no weight. Incoming tides have been the best time to fish, with Capt. Josh Fritz’s anglers having success during these periods.

Offshore, the sheepshead spawn is winding down, but large fish of 5 pounds or more can still be found on rocks in 25 to 40 feet of water. Live shrimp have been a successful bait for these fish, with bonus catches of mangrove snapper and hogfish also being reported. Additionally, cobia have started to appear on the flats, often trailing pods of stingrays, and can be caught using live bait or artificial lures.

Anglers can contact Capt. Josh Fritz at 352-345-9304 or Capt. Matt Cowden at 727-534-6603 for more information on fishing in Pasco County.
