CITRUS PARK , Paul “Tre” Zancara III, a senior at Sickles High School in Tampa, has decided to take up yoga.
However, it’s not just any ordinary yoga for the accomplished wrestler. Zancara recently completed a perfect season on the mat, and he’s looking to bring home a state championship. The senior, who is 18 years old, finished his regular season with an undefeated record of 44-0, with 24 of those wins coming by way of pin.
“I’ve always been focused on wrestling, but I realized that I needed to find ways to manage my stress and stay flexible,” Zancara said. “Yoga has really helped me with that. It’s allowed me to clear my mind and focus on my technique.”
Zancara’s hard work and dedication have paid off, as he was named the Hillsborough County Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Year. He’s now looking to make a deep run in the state tournament, which will take place on February 29 and March 2 at the Florida Athletic Event Center in Kissimmee.
“I’m feeling confident about my chances,” Zancara said. “I’ve been working hard all season, and I believe that I have what it takes to bring home a state championship.”
Sickles High School is located at 7950 Sickles Dr, Tampa, FL 33625. The school has a strong wrestling program, and Zancara is hoping to follow in the footsteps of past state champions.
