The team secured their spot by sweeping the University of Alabama-Huntsville in a best-of-three series to win the NCAA Division II South Super Regional championship at Mary Cannon Cabot Stadium on the Saint Leo University campus.
The Lions won the series with a 6-3 victory on Thursday and a 13-1 victory on Friday, May 22, 2026. School Vice President for Athletics Marcal Lazenby was overheard singing ‘We are the champions,’ a classic song by Queen, in celebration of the team’s achievement. The team, led by players such as Tierney Hocquard, 24, Sydney Cline, 19, Megan Shurtz, 21, and Baylee Darby, 9, demonstrated dominant performance throughout the series.
The Saint Leo University campus is located in St. Leo, Florida, which is in Pasco County. The team’s success is a source of pride for the local community. The College Softball World Series will feature the top teams from Division II, competing for the national championship.
