Briahanna Jackson, a 32-year-old former Lecanto High School standout, has returned to the United States after being stranded in Tehran, Iran for 21 days following the outbreak of war. Jackson, who had been playing basketball in Iran, recounted her harrowing experience of being in the dark and hearing the sound of bombs constantly.
Jackson had gone to Iran to play basketball at the invitation of a former teammate from Louisville, who was also her college roommate. She had built a professional career overseas, playing in countries such as Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Mexico. However, her experience in Iran was different, with a focus solely on basketball. The war broke out in the middle of a championship series, and Jackson and her teammate were forced to make a risky escape.
Jackson and her teammate survived the escape, but not without difficulty. They had to navigate through the chaos and uncertainty of the war-torn city, relying on their agent for guidance. Jackson’s experience has left her shaken, and she is still adjusting to the silence and peace of her hometown.
Jackson’s story is a testament to the challenges and dangers faced by athletes and individuals working abroad. Her safe return is a relief to her family, friends, and community.
